Common Description
Patients with meningoencephaloceles have a mass of variable size containing brain and its coverings protruding onto the face or skull. Craniofacial manifestation is the one that comes onto the face or int the mouth-frntoethmoidal / basal ME.
Medical Description
An encephalocele consistes of brain tissue, which has herniated through a hole in the skull - this is mostly non-functional scarred brain tissue.
Characteristics
- Mass extending onto the face between the eyes
- Abnormal seperation of the eyes (telecanthus)
- Distorted tear drainage system, causing overflow of tears (epiphora)
- A long face

DDMS Process and Procedure
Management by craniofacial team. Usually transcranial surgery is needed as soon after diagnosis as possible.
